On The Set With Debbie Brubaker

I am fortunate, seriously...I have had some good friends step up and give me a hand on this new adventure.

One of them who has been really integral in helping me keep my sanity while producing this series has been Debbie A Brubaker.

Debbie was the producer that brought me on as a Location Scout/Manager on the documentary, Gold Mountain for which I won the COLA Award for Location Professional of the Year, Documentaries, 2015.

Debbie was there when I had to go up and give a speech to that room full of LA Location Managers. I took heart in her presence. It was a stressful moment for sure.

So this documentary was shot in a number of different locations and Debbie was on the job with us in the mountains, in the valleys, in caves, on rivers, in the bowels of old ships.

So many locations and a great crew made this a super fun job and she was a joy to work with. We became friends as often times happens on jobs of this nature. The photos here are just a few of the locations we were at for a week of filming here in San Francisco and Placer County.

We had great success working with Susannah Greason Robbins at Film SF when we needed to lock down the Balclutha in the Golden-Gate-Nationalpark. What a fabulous location. Then of course we headed up to Placer County to work with Beverly Lewis Placer-Lake Tahoe Film Office.

AND another perk....Deb belongs to the DGA which means she gets into the movies for free and she can bring a guest. So I've been lucky enough to see some great films with her and have a little fun. We only go on weekdays cause Debbie's a good egg and doesn't want to take advantage of her good fortune.

Debbie A Brubaker was also my main consultant on this PA Series. I am so glad she could help because she has such a wide range of experience in the field and producing, not only movies, but just about everything else as well.

She has been in the Bay Area since...well the beginning. She has over 30 years of experience working in motion pictures and television. The past couple of years has mostly been about television, “Tales of the City”, “The Man in the High Castle”, “Cosmos: Possible Worlds”, and a pilot for CBS that recently wrapped called “Alive”. Locally in the San Francisco Bay Area she’s been dubbed the “Godmother” of independent film. One of her most recent adventures was 5 days on the Lost Coast of California hanging out with Sean Penn. Lucky, competent, Debbie. And she's charming and fun.

Thanks Debbie for all your help. You rock!
