“Teach What It Takes”

Our teachers explain how we teach students what it really takes to make it in the film industry and it all starts with those elusive “SOFT SKILLS”.

Featuring three of our teachers, we hear from Katie McQuone-Botello, who was our first client in 2020, plus Kevin Clifton who has been using SFPA since 2021 and Philip Chidel from Marin joined us in 2022. These teachers have been using SFPA and finding success for their students.

When I first heard about the course, I instantly knew that there was something different about this that others didn't have. I come from a background where we're always talking about the arts and creativity, and how to make a good movie, but this one is actually telling you how to make a movie. It's like how to be responsible, how to handle yourself on the set.

“I have seen first hand my students go out and get jobs after taking this course and graduating from my program. And this course is access for everyone. It’s not just you’re in LA so you have a foot in the door. I can be anywhere and understand how the industry works and apply it to where I live.”

“I haven’t seen anything else like this because I just don’t think it’s out there. When I first started going through it, I just could not believe how much time and effort was put into it. Everything is shot beautifully. The interviews are fantastic. There's a colorful cast of characters that are involved here that have a tremendous amount of production experience, and they talk to the students as if they really want them to get jobs in the industry.”

Eric Chow, Phillip & Sala Burton High School, San Francisco, CA

“Kincade Productions curriculum is an amazing opportunity for my students to have access to the inside track of becoming a Film Production Assistant. They are learning important lessons about the film industry, how to get started, having the right mindset, and of course, all of the terminology of the industry. Quite honestly, they are learning how to be successful in any pathway they plan to get a start in through the engaging testimonials and bits of wisdom.”

Julianne Aguilar, CTE Film Instructor, Atwater High School, Atwater, CA

“I have been teaching Film Studies to my students as part of our Arts, Media, & Entertainment CTE Pathway for 15 years.  While my students are well-versed in cinematic history and theory, movie-making processes and workflow, the art and science of cinematography and editing, we experienced a huge hole in our career readiness curriculum.  Our school is not located near any industry hubs; there is a scant number of industry professionals, but most over an hour away.  So, experiences in job shadowing, workshops and training with industry professionals, networking, and internships, are out of our reach.

Then I met Robin and Susan Kincade and they introduced me to their The Production Assistant Course. They are so very knowledgeable, professional, passionate, experienced, connected, while also being supportive, friendly, and approachable

My students learned so much from their Production Assistant Course.  They got all the advice and insider knowledge of being on-set in LA or the Bay Area without the cost and headache of traveling with teenagers.  They all passed their quizzes and cheer for each other when they passed the final exam.  I can’t wait to expand this program to all my Film Students and see where this takes them!”

After going through the content with all the classes in our program, we are sold. The lessons were clear, accurate and gave students the confidence to seek that first job in a production environment.  The thing that impressed us the most was the emphasis that Robin places on the soft skills like being nice, showing up early, being organized, communicating with your coworkers and having pride in your work. We realize that not all our students are going to end up working in production but having access to these skills will serve them well in any industry.”

Monica Castro, Media Academy Teacher, Coachella vally High School, Coachella, CA

“Kincade has been a great tool for my students and my AME program. We live in a rural community and having professional business partners come to our school is nearly impossible. Robin has made it easy to have professionals communicate with my students. She breaks down her course in a manageable way. The modules are user-friendly and students can go back to lessons if they need a refresher. As a teacher, I like that I can switch lessons around and change the order so I can adapt it to my Dual Enrollment curriculum. I highly recommend Kincade and hope others join to reap the benefits of the program.”

“Her PA Course is undoubtedly such a huge help to my ROP Video Production students. They did not only learn about the culture and environment in the entertainment world, but most importantly, they have gained such an immense amount of information in order to survive the dynamic world of film production.”

“Even some students of mine who are not specifically going to film school were very vocal of the relevance and helpfulness of this course in terms of opening their minds to the importance of professionalism and positive attitude in the workplace. I truly wish I had taken a course like this when I was in Film School many years ago.”
